WHO YOU'LL WORK WITH
You’ll be based in our Tokyo office as part of our our Product Development & Procurement service line of McKinsey’s Operations Practice.
Procurement is a rapidly growing service line that helps organizations build competitive advantage through the development of world-class purchasing and supply management capabilities. Sustainable impact is our focus and how we measure our success. We focus on end-to end optimization that looks at total value capture, including strategic sourcing, global sourcing, supplier collaboration & innovation, procure-to-pay, organization design, and capability building.
Our client engagements span most industry sectors with a concentration in Automotive and Assembly, Basic Materials, Consumer Goods, Retail, Pharma, and Travel Transport & Logistics. We have completed over 2,300 Procurement engagements across the globe and all industries in the last 5 years.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
You’ll bring industry purchasing experience within the Product Development & Procurement service for Operations practice.
You’ll work on client engagements by driving a workstream for specific categories, most often under guidance of other content experts. You’ll provide short term support to consulting teams delivering key insights on content focused questions (spend analysis, TCO/clean sheet costing, contract analysis, supplier identification, saving idea/lever identification, sourcing strategy, development, RFQ management and analysis, negotiation strategy development and tracking mechanism development).
You’ll support client proposals and other client development activities and bring relevant knowledge and capabilities to client. You’ll also support the development and maintenance of procurement capabilities (including assets, knowledge, tools, fact packs, case studies, primers) and serve as a full-time member of a knowledge building team.
There is flexibility to hire at Knowledge Analyst, Senior Knowledge Analyst or Knowledge Specialist level, depending on your overall experience.

QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor’s degree in engineering / technology; master's degree preferred with MBA with specialization in operations will be an added advantageRelevant industry / consulting experience in procurement with experience of 2+ years
Strong understanding of purchasing, sourcing, supplier identification and management, vendor development, costing etc.
Solid problem-solving capabilities, including the ability to disaggregate issues, identify root causes and recommend solutions
Excellent analytical skills and ability to understand the relevant analysis required to prove a hypothesis and ability to gather information around it and make informed/logical assumptions where required
Basic understanding of research techniques, information sources, and statistical analysis/analytic techniques relevant to purchasing and operations
Good business knowledge and solid understanding of economic, financial, and general business concepts and terminologyStrong interpersonal skills, good team player
Strong written/verbal communications skillsStrong proficiency in Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and relevant analytics/statistical packagesKnowledge / experience on e-procurement tools (spend analysis tools, RFQ tools, should costing, etc.) will be added advantageWillingness to travel (approximately 70% of the time post-pandemic)
