You will oversee a team of 10-15 experienced graphics designers, enabling them to optimize performance and internal customer satisfaction while empowering them to develop as talented professionals.
In this role, you will be responsible for managing the Japan office’s graphics function, which entails guiding, assessing and improving your team’s work to deliver in line with strategic goals and foster a creative environment for your team. You will cultivate design culture by promoting the value of design, providing art direction and creative media consulting among internal customers and in the office community.
You will lead people operations including recruiting and onboarding talent, identifying growth opportunities and evaluating performance. You will monitor individuals’ performance, guide their development plans and provide coaching and advice on opportunities to improve. You will leverage your leadership and people management expertise to inspire your team to build a culture of inclusive collaboration, constant growth and engagement around the team’s purpose.
You will liaise with internal customers to ensure consistent quality and service by tracking team performance, workload and customer satisfaction. You will also analyze team’s delivery, report to office leadership as well as create and manage department budget and utilization approach.
Collaborating with office leadership to shape and drive the strategic direction for the team, its workflow, service delivery and talent development will be an integral part of your role. You will seize opportunities to develop new capabilities and graphics solutions by evolving team’s services to cater to internal customers’ needs in helping transform the way they communicate visually business messages.
You will mobilize stakeholders and resources to implement strategic plans on a tactical level through holistic change management. Acting as a problem solver, thought partner and strategic thinker will be essential to your role in managing team projects and supporting larger scale initiatives. You will execute strategies to streamline and digitize services, continuously innovate the design portfolio, drive demand, and define development journeys for your team. In implementing your vision, you will ensure transparent, engaging and inclusive collaboration that enables your team members to jointly lead transformation initiatives and build partnerships with McKinsey’s vast network of design experts, peer managers, internal customers and other colleagues.

Qualifications
Undergraduate degree in a design-related field such as fine arts, graphic design, corporate design, service design, visual communication or media design preferred
7+ years of professional experience
3+ years of team leadership or art/creative direction experience
Experience in providing creative leadership and guidance to customers on the optimal application of graphical solutions
Experience using MS Office (especially PowerPoint) and design software such as Adobe CC/CS (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, After Effects, Premiere Pro), CorelDRAW, Sketch, Sketchup
Demonstrates a passion for growth; ability to help people reach their full potential through feedback, mentoring, apprenticeship and coaching
Strong communication and interpersonal skills (emotional intelligence, empathy and people-first leadership) to forge partnering relationships with colleagues from diverse backgrounds
Ability to formulate a change vision and develop strategic communications to present ideas in a structured, persuasive way to diverse groups including leaders
Excellent project management and organizational skills with a focus on continuous improvement to achieve strategic goals
Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills; ability to identify, structure and analyze problems

Business fluency in Japanese and English (indicate level of proficiency in Japanese and English including information about obtained certifications)
