JOB DESCRIPTION
Control Management (CM) maintains a strong and consistent control environment through a joint accountability model that align CMs with each line of business, function and region/country to mitigate operational risk. The team focuses on four areas: Control Design & Expertise, Risks & Controls Identification/Assessment, Issues & Control Deficiencies and Control Governance & Reporting.
Overview of the Role
The Japan Location Control Management team is responsible for the oversight of governance and controls associated with operational risks in the Corporate & Investment Bank (“CIB”) franchise. You will report to the Japan Senior Location Control Manager, and work very closely with Senior Country Business Manager (“SCBM”), local senior management, Business and Functional Control Managers in and outside of Japan and other regional partners to expand and maintain the end-to-end governance and control framework for JPM in Japan across multiple business lines and functions to proactively identify, anticipate, develop, execute control agendas and remediate control issues.
You will be responsible for providing a holistic view of the control environment, supporting immediate problem detection and escalation, engage the appropriate teams in a timely manner, and provide the ability to quickly remediate critical control issues across all the impacted areas of the Firm.
You should be interested in working in a fast-paced and dynamic environment, playing an active part in various forums and participating in control framework enhancing initiatives. You will need to foster strong relationships with diverse teams to influence enhancements on the local control environment.
Job Responsibilities:
Identify and develop metrics for reporting to senior management covering location-wide aspects of operational risk and emerging control issues for use at local governance committees
Execute location level control processes expected by local regulators and/or management
Lead discussions to design and enhance control framework where issues are promptly escalated and addressed through appropriate governance and that remedial actions are fully actioned
Providing a bridge across lines of business, corporate functions, Risk, Compliance and Audit to form an end to end view on controls, identifying and assessing potential systemic control gaps and/or emerging risks
Partner with business and function control managers to help on discussions around control design, understanding business processes and control failures to a deep level of detail to challenge status quo and improve the control environment
Diagnose and benchmark capabilities and best control practices and expanding of these practices across LOBs/functions
Evaluate data and trends to monitor effectiveness of controls, identify improvement opportunities and associated issues and risks.

Required qualifications, capabilities and skills:
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Finance, Economics or other related discipline.
3+ years of experience in banking/financial services in risk and control, audit, compliance, operational risk or related functions
Highly motivated, energetic self-starter to analyze, structure and scope problems and independently find solutions
Ability to independently prioritize and manage multiple tasks under tight timelines
Demonstrate investigative mindset, able to see and present issues at both a high-level and in detail, and understand applicability across the businesses and functions
Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English and Japanese
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite required
Preferred qualifications, capabilities, and skills
Previous experience in project management and process improvements are highly valued
Knowledge of SQL queries, Python, digital tools (Alteryx / Tableau) or similar discipline is a plus
SharePoint experience (building and maintain SharePoint sites)
