The role will be based in Tokyo and you will be reporting to a senior Vice President on the Legal team in Tokyo for the Global Banking and Markets Legal team in Tokyo.
Global Banking and Markets (Public) in Japan includes the fixed income, currencies and commodities (or FICC), equity and fund derivatives, sales and trading businesses (including cash equities, listed options, futures and facilitation) and Private Investor Products Group (including retail and wholesale structured products).
Responsibilities include providing advice and guidance to our traders and sales people on a broad range of legal and regulatory matters across Global Banking and Markets (Public).
Key responsibilities are as follows:
Advising on regulatory matters impacting Global Banking and Markets (Public) (including global and local securities, banking and derivative regulations, such as, margin rules)
Provide legal advice to Global Banking and Markets (Public) on securities, banking and derivative transactions and documentation
Leading negotiations on documentation relating to all aspects of the Global Banking and Markets (Public) business including structured derivatives confirmations, termsheets and securities offer documents
Preparing, maintaining and updating precedent legal documentation and agreements to incorporate changes in applicable law and regulations, Goldman Sachs policy or changes in market practice
Working with the Global Banking and Markets (Public) Compliance team on regulatory matters and investigations. There will also be opportunities to become involved in policy work, including representing the firm in discussions with industry bodies (in particular ISDA)
Liaise with Legal and Compliance personnel at Goldman Sachs globally on issues relating to the Global Banking and Markets (Public)
Assist in the preparation of materials for submission to the internal Goldman Sachs regional and global committees

Qualifications Requirements:
Qualified lawyer with minimum 5 years PQE (depending on the candidate’s skills, it can be less)
Relevant post-qualification experience either with a reputable law firm or as in-house counsel in the finance sector
International mindset/experience
