【2025 Latest Edition】Complete Guide to GMAT Average Scores! What Is the Benchmark for Top MBA Admission?
Hello! This is TJ, CEO of Alpha Advisors!
Many candidates share the same concerns: “I want to get into a top MBA program but my GMAT score isn’t improving,” “I’m not sure what score is good enough for admission,” or “I want to study efficiently and boost my score in a short time.” Since the GMAT is a crucial factor in MBA admissions, it is essential to prepare thoroughly.
That said, GMAT prep is an area where studying blindly on your own often doesn’t deliver results. In fact, many people come to Alpha saying, “I studied for a whole year but my score barely moved...” or “I tried another prep school but didn’t get results.”
However, many Alpha students achieve high scores in a short period of time. Recently, we received reports of GMAT 690 in just 3 months, and Executive Assessment (EA) 155 in only 2 months!
Why are such outstanding results possible?
Because Alpha’s one-on-one coaching precisely identifies each student’s weaknesses and provides the most effective, customized strategies. This ensures reliable score improvements in a short period of time, allowing even busy professionals to prepare with maximum efficiency.
On top of that, the cost is under $200—the lowest in the industry, less than one-tenth of other prep schools! For those who want guaranteed results while keeping costs low, this is the perfect program for securing admission to a top MBA.
If you want to raise your GMAT score and gain admission to a top MBA, consult Alpha Advisors today!

Top 10 US MBA Programs Average GMAT Scores:
・Stanford University: 685
・Harvard Business School (HBS): 675
・Wharton School (University of Pennsylvania): 675
・Chicago Booth School of Business: 675
・Kellogg School of Management (Northwestern University): 675
・MIT Sloan School of Management: 675
・Columbia Business School: 675
・Yale School of Management (SOM): 675
・NYU Stern School of Business: 675
・UC Berkeley Haas School of Business: 675
Major European MBA Programs Average GMAT Scores (Estimated):
・London Business School (LBS): 650-670
・INSEAD: 650-670
・Cambridge Judge Business School: 640-660
・Oxford Saïd Business School: 640-660
U.S. top MBA programs generally maintain very high average GMAT scores of around 670–685, with elite schools such as Stanford, Harvard, and Wharton requiring averages close to 685. Meanwhile, leading European schools such as LBS, INSEAD, Cambridge, and Oxford do not officially publish specific numbers, but their estimated averages are generally in the 650–670 range.
These schools continue to demand high scores even after the GMAT Focus Edition was introduced, meaning applicants must prepare more precisely and strategically than for the former GMAT Classic. It is crucial to understand each school’s score trends and set appropriate targets according to your dream programs.
How Many Points Do You Need to Get into a Top School?
For ultra-competitive schools like Stanford and Harvard, where the averages are around 685 and 675, you should aim for at least 680 or higher. At M7 schools, the applicant pool is exceptionally strong each year, and falling below the average can put you at risk of being screened out in the early stages of application review.
When evaluating your chances, it is effective to divide your score into two categories: “safe zone” and “challenge zone.” The “safe zone” means scoring above a school’s average, giving you a strong chance of admission. The “challenge zone” means being slightly below the average but still having a shot if you excel in essays, interviews, or other parts of the application.
For example, at M7 schools, the safe zone generally starts at 680+, while the challenge zone might be around 660–675. For non-M7 programs, the safe zone is around 650+, and the challenge zone is approximately 620–640. Of course, these are only benchmarks—it cannot be said definitively that a high score guarantees admission or that a lower score guarantees rejection.
