Hello, I'm TJ, and I am CEO of Alpha Advisors.

The new financial aid policy that Yale University announced in January 2026 is dramatically reshaping scholarship support at America's top universities.

Starting with the incoming class for the 2026 to 2027 academic year, Yale will change as follows.

・Families earning less than $100,000 per year → Tuition, room, board, travel, and insurance all covered at zero cost (plus a $2,000 startup grant)
・Families earning less than $200,000 per year → Tuition effectively free

At this point, many readers outside the United States will likely think:

"Surely this only applies to American students."

That is not the case. International students qualify under exactly the same terms. Yale is one of the very few universities in the United States that maintains a "need blind policy for international students," meaning it covers 100 percent of demonstrated financial need through grants, with zero loans, regardless of nationality or visa status.

In other words, these same conditions apply to you, even if you are applying from outside the United States.

It Is Not Just Yale! A Comparison of the Top 4 US Universities

Over the past year or two, America's most elite universities have, one after another, rolled out policies that make tuition free for middle income and lower income families. Here is a summary of the major schools.

◼︎Harvard (2025 to 2026 academic year)
・Families earning less than $200,000 → Tuition free
・Families earning less than $100,000 → All expenses covered, plus a $2,000 startup grant in year one and a $2,000 launch grant in year three
・Same terms apply to international students (need blind admissions)

◼︎MIT (2025 to 2026 academic year)
・Families earning less than $200,000 → Tuition free
・Families earning less than $100,000 → All expenses covered (including housing, meals, and books)
・Same terms apply to international students, with need blind admissions and 100 percent of demonstrated need met

◼︎Princeton (one of the most generous programs in the country)
・For the vast majority of families earning less than $150,000 → Tuition, housing, meals, books, and personal expenses all fully covered
・Zero loans, full grant support
・Same terms apply to international students (one of the very few schools in the country offering need blind admissions for international applicants)

◼︎Yale (2026 to 2027 academic year, the latest announcement)
・Families earning less than $100,000 → Zero Parent Share (all expenses, travel, insurance, plus a $2,000 startup grant)
・Families earning less than $200,000 → Scholarship equivalent to or exceeding the full cost of tuition
・Same terms apply to international students, regardless of citizenship or visa status

What Does This Mean for Families?

Take Japan as an example. The average household income is approximately $35,000. The top 10 percent of households earn around $85,000, and the top 5 percent earn about $100,000. Similar income distributions apply to most countries outside the United States.

What this means is simple. The overwhelming majority of families worldwide would qualify for "free tuition" or better at at least one of the four universities listed above.

The long held assumption that "the Ivy League costs around $90,000 per year. There is no way our family could ever afford that" no longer holds true from 2026 onward.

If you can secure admission, the university will cover the cost. Money is no longer the obstacle.

This is the new reality at the world's top universities.

But "Nothing Starts Until You Are Admitted"

No matter how generous the financial aid is, the fundamental prerequisite is admission. And the acceptance rates at Yale, Harvard, MIT, and Princeton all hover around 4 to 6 percent. There is no question that these are the most competitive universities in the world.

With the most talented high school students from every corner of the globe competing fiercely for the same spots, it is nearly impossible for students and families to build an application strategy at this level entirely on their own.

That is because success requires all of the following elements.

・GPA, SAT/ACT, and TOEFL/IELTS scores at world class levels
・A challenging course load including AP or IB classes
・Extracurricular activities and leadership experiences with a compelling narrative arc
・A deep sense of self that can answer the "Why this college" question convincingly
・Essays strategically crafted to move admissions officers
・A recommendation letter strategy optimized for each target school
・Accurate and timely submission of Financial Aid documents such as the CSS Profile and FAFSA

All of this must be designed and executed within the limited three years of high school, and often in a non English speaking environment on top of everything else.

The 4 Steps to Decisive Admission

◼︎STEP 1: 【Free Consultation】Start by Telling Us Your Situation

Visit the Alpha Advisors Study Abroad official website, briefly fill in your current situation, and apply for a free consultation. Your grade level, academic performance, target schools, what you are struggling with: whatever you can share, at whatever level of detail, is perfectly fine. Everything begins here.

◼︎STEP 2: 【Educational Strategy Advisory】A Direct Kickoff Meeting with TJ and Emi

Alpha's representative TJ (Toshihiko Irizumi) and COO Emi (Emi Sakashita) will personally conduct an educational strategy advisory kickoff meeting (30 to 60 minutes) together with you and your family.

After hearing about your current grade level, academic performance, and family goals, we will map out an optimal application strategy in a single session. After the meeting, you can reach your dedicated advisor directly through chat at any time for questions or points you want to discuss. An environment where "you can consult the moment you think of something" is the single most powerful weapon for winning a long admissions campaign.

◼︎STEP 3: 【Application Advisory and Roadmap Design】Charting Your Course to the Top Schools

We will build a detailed timeline toward your reach schools including Yale, Harvard, MIT, and Princeton.

Exactly what you should be doing this month, next month, six months from now, and one year from now. From study plans for standardized tests (SAT, ACT, TOEFL, IELTS), to the strategic construction of extracurricular activities, course selection, and the design of competitions and research projects, Alpha's advisors walk alongside you and move you forward one step at a time.

Leave behind the time spent wondering "what should I do next" once and for all.

◼︎STEP 4: 【Application and Financial Aid Support】Toward the Double Victory of Decisive Admission and Full Financial Aid

In the final phase, we finish off both admission and Financial Aid with full intensity.

・Application documents: Precise and strategic preparation of the CSS Profile, FAFSA, and each school's supplemental forms
・Application materials: Resume, world class Alpha caliber application essays, and strategic recommendation letter design
・Standardized test preparation: Thorough score building for TOEFL, IELTS, SAT, and ACT
・Interview preparation: Practical role play tailored to the patterns of each target school
・Campus visits: Strategic visit plan design and full preparation support

What we aim for is not merely admission. It is the double victory of decisive admission paired with full Financial Aid.

Opportunities come only to those who take action.

If you never start moving, admission will never come. Cost is no longer the problem. But to win admission to a top school in the Ivy Plus category (the Ivy League plus Stanford, MIT, Chicago and other elite institutions), half hearted effort will simply not be enough.

However, once you come to Alpha, we will share with you every piece of know how needed to win admission.

For admission to America's top universities, choose Alpha Advisors! Over 18 years of experience, more than 80,000 clients served. Contact the strongest partner for those taking on the world from wherever you are today.
